The Top Five DON'T's of Virtual Events

Amelia Earhart once said "Anything you can do (virtually), you can do well."

Okay, she didn't say that. But she did have a persuasion towards being prepared, evaluating the big picture and focussing on the outcome. That is what hosting a good virtual or hybrid event is about, and I think if she were around, she'd host a darn good one.

Here are out top picks of what NOT TO DO when planning or executing your virtual event.

DON'T

  • BE SCARED TO THINK BIG

    • There are plenty of companies and organisations out there that are hosting Virtual Events, if you want those high attendee numbers, you're going to need to think outside the box. Speak to professionals (like us!) and ensure you know all the exciting features and functionality you can use to guarantee your attendees will have a great time and come along to your future events as well!

  • OVER COMPLICATE THINGS

    • Whilst it's important to give your attendees a meaningful and engaging experience, there is no need to use every engagement tool under the sun! You need a a well designed agenda with a good mix of direct and interesting content plus interactive segments. Having too many speakers or too many interactive pieces can get messy and distract you and your audience from your value proposition.

  • UNDERVALUE VIDEO & AUDIO QUALITY

    • Remember, your remote attendees are probably sitting at home in their slippers in front of a screen. You need to provide as much 'human' as you can to that experience to ensure they stay engaged. There is nothing like a blurry backlit laptop camera and Air-pod quality audio to make an attendee feel undervalued and for your event to come off as unfinished and unprofessional. You don't need to spend a huge amount of money to achieve professional looking video & audio, but you do need to understand basic lighting concepts and the limitations of in-built hardware.

  • DRAG IT OUT

    • Your value proposition is what matters, if you can get your content and your value across in 45 minutes instead of an hour and a half, that's great!

  • FORGET YOUR HIGHLIGHT REEL

    • Your highlight reel (curated from your event recording) is a perfect way to show off your event success. This can be shared on your website, social media pages and in email marketing. A perfect way to attract people to your next event!
